I've been reading up on some of the many types of figured maple wood: birdseye maple, tiger maple, quilted maple, flamed maple, curly maple, striped maple, fiddleback maple, wavy maple and more. Various types of stresses while the tree is growing (for example, bugs, injuries, weather and pressure) cause beautiful things to happen to the wood grain.
Isn't it wonderful? I wish it was my dining table.
Check out Greg's Tiger Maple Trestle Table at Vermont Woods Studios. Greg builds this and other tables to order. You can choose from many different table sizes as well as from a list of figured woods including: birdseye maple, tiger maple, natural cherry, birch and more. If your favorite wood isn't on the list, ask Greg if he can find it. The answer is probably YES.
